Project:
Say Their Names

I created this site with the hope it become a collaborative effort to compile and share the names and stories of unarmed Black people who were killed by police.

About this effort

What started as a monument to Black lives lost to police violence quickly grew into an effort to aggregate the names and stories of so many Black lives that have been lost to police violence.  Although we can never really know the true number of stories, we can share the stories we know.

Submit a name

My list is extensive but not perfect

My primary purpose for this site is to house a list of all known names and stories of unarmed Black people whose lives were lost to police violence. To aggregate such a massive list requires the help of all our supporters. Please search our list and submit any name we are missing.

Share their story

Bring us the names and the stories

The biggest area we need help are for submissions of names like Anthony Dwain Lee, who was unarmed and murdered by police on October 28th, 2000. These older stories garnered much less media attention and are much harder to find. Submitting a name, death date, links to any articles about the incident, and we can add their story to the database.

Your Contribution Matters

Any donations to this project will fund the current and future monuments to Black Lives lost to police violence like the one currently located at McClatchy Park in Sacramento, California. This will help fund repairs due to vandalism, improvements, touch up work, hardware, and site fees to operate this page.
